One Anthropic employee generates the same revenue as 180 Tata Consultancy Services employees.
Yes, you read that right.
We were looking at revenue-per-employee numbers across a few “tech companies” this week for a client that wanted to benchmark itself against the best in the industry. When we extended that to the top AI companies – the spread is just crazy.
Anthropic is sitting at the top around $9M per employee.
OpenAI is around $5.5M.
Google is $2.11M.
Zoho is closer to $83K.
TCS is around $50K.
Many services companies are even lower than that.
All are in theory tech businesses. But the business models and margins are very, very different.
It’s not about company size or funding.
Google has more cash and headcount than any AI lab here, and it still lands well below them.
TCS is a multi-billion-dollar giant and still sits near the bottom.
What actually explains it is how much of the revenue is tied to owned IP versus people doing billable work. A model serves the 100,000th customer for about the same cost as the 10th.
A services business mostly can’t, more revenue usually just means more headcount.
We talk to a lot of #ITservices leaders, and almost none of them have actually calculated this number for their own company.
Might be worth doing before you set next year’s plan, not to chase Anthropic’s number, but to know your baseline.
Is it time #India companies start thinking about #IP and what it could mean for their business?
